At the end of August, ESCONI held our annual Fall field trip to the Braceville Spoil Pile, known as “Worm Hill.” It was a huge success. The weather cooperated for the most part. Saturday, August 29th was a beautiful day, with no rain and highs in the mid-70’s. Unfortunately, Saturday, August 30th started out with rain, but that slowed and stopped by about 10 AM. The ground soaked up most of the water and some of the shale was softened for our ready picks and shovels.

There were many familiar faces, including a strange encounter with Ken and Barbie…

Lots of smiles…

And, even an old miner that may have climbed out of the mine!

We found many nice concretions.

And, of course, we took a selfie, this was on Sunday.

Just before the fossil pour, where material was donated by Alan Keith, Andrew Young, Phil Anderson, Chris Berg, Marty Houdek, and Rich Holm. Thanks! These giveaways are always appreciated!
