ESCONI Website Content Policy

The ESCONI website is intended to promote interest and education in the earth sciences and to provide information about the activities of the Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois.

We welcome contributions from ESCONI members and others in the earth science community. These may include club news, event announcements, field trip reports, photographs, historical material, research news, collecting stories, and articles related to geology, paleontology, mineralogy, archaeology, lapidary arts, and other subjects relevant to ESCONI’s mission.

Submission and Editorial Policy

Content submitted for publication may be reviewed and edited for clarity, length, accuracy, formatting, and relevance to ESCONI’s mission. Submission of material does not guarantee publication.

ESCONI reserves the right to decline, edit, or remove content at the discretion of the website administrators or ESCONI Board of Directors.

Accuracy and Opinions

We make a reasonable effort to provide accurate information, but errors can occur. Corrections are welcome and may be sent to ESCONI.

Opinions expressed in contributed articles, quotations, interviews, or material linked from the website are those of their respective authors and do not necessarily represent the views of ESCONI or its Board of Directors.

Scientific interpretations can change as new discoveries are made. Older articles on the website may reflect the scientific understanding available when they were written.

Respectful and Appropriate Content

Material published on the ESCONI website should be appropriate for a general audience and consistent with the educational and scientific purposes of the club.

Content that is abusive, discriminatory, threatening, defamatory, deliberately misleading, primarily political in nature, or otherwise unrelated to ESCONI’s mission will not be published.

Commercial advertising and promotional material will generally not be accepted unless it is directly relevant to ESCONI activities or has been approved by the club.

Copyright and Attribution

Contributors should submit only text, photographs, illustrations, and other material that they created themselves or have permission to use.

Sources should be credited when appropriate. Copyrighted material from books, journals, newspapers, websites, social media, or other sources should not be reproduced without permission except where its use is permitted by applicable copyright law.

Whenever possible, ESCONI will link to the original source rather than reproduce substantial portions of material published elsewhere.

Contributors retain copyright to their original material but, by submitting it, grant ESCONI permission to publish it on the ESCONI website and in other ESCONI publications or social media.

Photographs

Photographs submitted to ESCONI may be used on the website, in the ESCONI newsletter, or on ESCONI’s social media accounts unless the contributor requests otherwise.

We will make reasonable efforts to credit photographers and contributors when that information is available.

External Links

The ESCONI website frequently links to museums, universities, scientific publications, news organizations, clubs, businesses, and other external websites that may be of interest to our members.

A link does not imply endorsement by ESCONI, and ESCONI is not responsible for the content or availability of external websites.

Questions and Corrections

Questions about website content, requests for corrections, or concerns about material appearing on the website may be sent to ESCONI at esconi.info@gmail.com.

ESCONI may update this policy as needed.
