Paleontology rocked by organic molecules found in 66-million-year-old dinosaur bones

Science Daily has a story about another discovery of organic molecules in dinosaur bones. Since the early 2000’s, paleontologists have been finding organic material in dinosaur bones. The discoveries have been met with skepticism by paleontologists. Now a study in the journal Analytical Chemistry adds new evidence.

Professor Steve Taylor, chair of the Mass Spectrometry Research Group at the University of Liverpool’s Department of Electrical Engineering & Electronics, said:

“This research shows beyond doubt that organic biomolecules, such as proteins like collagen, appear to be present in some fossils.

“Our results have far-reaching implications. Firstly, it refutes the hypothesis that any organics found in fossils must result from contamination.

“Secondly, it suggests that cross-polarized light microscopy images of fossil bones, collected for a century, should be revisited. These images may reveal intact patches of bone collagen, potentially offering a ready-made trove of fossil candidates for further protein analysis. This could unlock new insights into dinosaurs — for example revealing connections between dinosaur species that remain unknown.

“Lastly, the findings inform the intriguing mystery of how these proteins have managed to persist in fossils for so long.”

    Very interesting! From a Christian worldview, some science suggests that evolution did not happen and that the earth is not as old as is often suggested. Finds like this are often used by these Christian Scientists to show that the earth is not that old, and much of the scientific evidence they use makes since religiously and scientifically.

      A young earth makes no sense scientifically. They are cherry-picking the evidence and misunderstanding the science. You can believe what you want, but belief and wishful thinking does not make it true.

    “The earth’s magnetic field is wearing down so quickly that it could be no more than 20,000 years old” (Snelling, 2012). Take a look at the article. Believe what you want, but the earth’s magnetic field is decaying faster than evolution can take place. If you look up what the Tyrannosaurus evolves into, the Tyrannosaurids were part of the mass extinction said to take place 65 million years ago, along with raptors, pterosaurs, and the Archeopteryx, which was a Jurassic period creature. How did Titanis roam the plains of North America in the very next time period if the only things that would have evolved into it were killed in the mass extinction? If you look at the geologic column, the bottom creatures were single-celled organisms like bacteria, the next had blind trilobites, the next had trilobites with eyes, the next level up had Orthoceras, the next had fish, the next amphibians, beach-dwelling creatures, the next had beach-dwelling lizards like the Dimetrodon. Then came plants, and animals. The dinosaurs, and the layers over them included ice-age creatures like the impressive mastodon. You guys are scientists, these are not time-periods, but biomes. If all of these creatures lived at the same time, then of course bacteria lived at the bottom of the ocean, it still does. Above that in what we call the midnight zone lived blind creatures, and the closer you get to the surface of the water, the better developed these creatures seem to be. Amphibians and lizards absolutely live on the beach, they still do. Dimetrodons would live much like today’s Komodo dragon. Bigger dinosaurs require cover, so they live inland in the forests and jungles. It is only natural that mammals should live inland, they too need the cover. Ice-age creatures would obviously live on top of mountains, and this it makes since for these creatures to co-exist in different biomes. Imagine, if the mantle had water in it, and the gravitational pull from the sun and the moon caused these waters to escape, and these super hot liquids came bursting forth into the ocean, right where the Mid-Atlantic Rid is. This would be the center of Pangea, but the increased pressure would cause the tectonic plates to shift about five times as fast as is normal. Now, the hot liquids would kill whatever it touched until it reached about the surface, but the vapor would rapidly condense because of the higher heat below it, and the rain would fall until the temperature was balanced. This means a great deal of flooding, and as people tried to escape, their first reaction would be to run to the top of the mountains. This global flood explains better than evolution how the geologic column was formed, and how the plates could cover this ground in this time. Do you think this is far fetched? It is no worse than a giant meteor crashing into the earth, and some things living, and others just not, or a world covered in toxic water.
