This week, we have a beautiful specimen of Macroneuropteris scheuchzeri, a seed fern from the coal forests of the late Carboniferous Period.  These are fairly commonly found at the terrestrial Mazon Creek fossil localities.  For more information, see Mazon Monday #39.

This specimen was sent in by Marie Angkuw.  She seems to have a knack for finding very nice Macroneuropteris pinnules.  This fossil was open via freeze/thaw during the winter of 2024/2025.  It collected from the stretch of the Mazon River on the Kodat farm east of Morris, IL.   The last photo shows damage some likely insect damage.

Thanks for sharing, Marie!
