Alethopteris serlii is always a favorite.  They are usually distinctive fossils, quite often preserved in 3-D.   A. serlii was a seed fern from the Carboniferous Period.   It is fairly common found in the  Mazon Creek fossil deposits.  It was named by Alexandre Brongniart (1770 – 1847) in 1836.  For more information see Mazon Monday #57.

This particular specimen was collected in Pit 11 quite a few years ago.
