Fossil Friday #299: Annularia sphenophylloides

Today, we have another beautiful contribution from George Witaczek.  This time it’s a beautiful Annularia sphenophylloides (see Mazon Monday #123) is another Mazon Creek favorite. They are almost always preserved with 3 dimensions, as is this one. Thanks for sharing, George!

Annularia sphenophylloides is a smaller variety of Annularia, which were the “leaves” of Calamites.  It was described in 1837 by August von Gutbier (1798-1866), a German paleontologist who described many Carboniferous plants from deposits in and around Germany.
