Fossil Friday #106: Palaeoxyris prendeli from Central Illinois

This is the “Fossil Friday” post #106.  Expect this to be a somewhat regular feature of the website.  We will post any fossil pictures you send in to esconi.info@gmail.com.  Please include a short description or story.  Check the #FossilFriday Twitter hash tag for contributions from around the world!

This week’s Fossil Friday is a twofer… two very beautiful shark egg cases from central Illinois.  These are not from Mazon Creek, but are from central Illinois, near a famous Little Vermillion Carboniferous locality.  This contribution comes from long time ESCONI member Rich Kerrill.  The species name is Palaeoxyris prendeli.  Jack Wittry of the Field Museum has a useful pdf for identification on the museum’s website.

Thanks for sharing… these are great specimens!
