Fossil Friday #76: Pennsylvanian Shark Tooth

This is the “Fossil Friday” post #76.  Expect this to be a somewhat regular feature of the website.  We will post any fossil pictures you send in to esconi.info@gmail.com.  Please include a short description or story.  Check the #FossilFriday Twitter hash tag for contributions from around the world!

For this week, we have a rare shark tooth from ESCONI member Connor Puritz.  This tooth belonged to a shark called Peripristis semicircularis, which lived during the late Pennsylvanian in what is now LaSalle County, Illinois.  This tooth is in exceptional condition!  It won the Vertebrate Fossil of the Month for April 2021 over on the Fossil Forum.  Connor has sent us multiple specimens for Fossil Friday….  Thanks for this breathtaking contribution!
