Motherboard has a blog entry that shows some of the best paleo art of 2017. This year includes:
- Hyoliths (an enigmatic animal from 500 million years ago, now classified with Brachiopods)
- Borealopelta markmitchelli (probably the best preserved dinosaur ever found)
- Luskhan itilensis (a new species of pliosaur)
- Siamogale metilutra (a 100 pound, wolf sized otter)
- Lemmysuchus obtusidens (a 164 million year old crocodylomorph from England)
- Anchiornis huxleyi (a fluffy ancient bird named for Thomas Henry Huxley)
- Lagenanectes richterae (a new elasmosaurid from the Cretaceous of Germany)
- Vouivria damparisensis (the oldest known brachiosaurid dinosaur, from the Jurassic of France)
- Wakaleo schouteni (a thylacoleonid, or marsupial lion from the late Oligocene-middle Miocene)
- Halszkaraptor escuilliei (a 75 million year old dromeosaurid from Mongolia, which looked like a swan)
- Zuul crurivastator (an exceptionally preserved specimen of ankylosaur from the late Cretaceous of Montana)
The 2016 story included our friend the Tully Monster.
