  • Throwback Thursday #312: Ron Schinderle Donation
    Barb Schinderle stopped by ESCONI Show last month to drop off a donation of her late husband Ron’s fossils. Ron passed away in 2021. He was a long time ESCONI member and an avid fossil collector . He went on many ESCONI field trips. A group of us remember him fondly from our many trips to Pit 11 and Fossil Rock Campgrounds to collect Mazon Creek fossils.

    Andy Hay Memorial Scholarship

    From the Northeastern Illinois University Newsletter for NEIU Donors February 2004 Friends and family of Andrew A. Hay, distinguished university fellow in the earth science department, recently established the Andrew A. Hay Memorial Scholarship fund. The earth science department will award the scholarship. It will be open to earth science majors who have a grade point average of 3.0 and higher.

    The next ESCONI Paleontology Study Group Meeting is January 17, 2009 at 7:30 pm and will be “The Cambrian Era By Tom Williams” at College of DuPage Bldg. K, Rm 131 7:30 P.M. Image: Reproduction of fig. 1K from Bengtson & Zhao 1997, a SEM image of the cnidarian Olivooides multisulcatus. Sample is CAGS (Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences) 32372, also from the Dengying Formation exposed in the Shizhonggou section; scale is the same as A.  Via Peripatus.

    January 8, 2000 Video on Upper Michigan February 12, 2000 Minerals of Langban, Sweden March 11, 2000 Unusual Crystal Forms – Twins and Pseudomorphs. Crystals frequently appear “different” from the classic textbook illustrations. Sometimes twins are formed reflecting a series of crystals faces. Sometimes the crystals are not what they seem.
