This week we have a look back at ESCONI 25 and 50 years ago.

25 Years Ago – April 1996

• The April field trip was to Sulphur and Corydon, Indiana for Mississippian fossils, including shark’s teeth.
• The April “Earth Science News” contains an article called “The Enigmatic Tully Monster” by Jim and Sylvia Konecny. Research to understand the affinities of this animal is still ongoing.
• All meetings were at COD, including the one single Junior’s group.

50 Years Ago – April 1971

• The April meeting featured the annual “Junior Festival”. It included displays made by junior members (age 16 and below) and a program.
• There were ESCONI Junior groups meeting in 4 locations: Homer Glen, Medinah, Downer’s Grove and Western Springs.
• The April Field Trip was to Bean Blossom in Brown County, Indiana.
• The first president of ESCONI, William Allaway, was named as the first director of the Los Gatos Museum (Los Gatos California). He also donated his rock and gem collection to the museum.
