March Mammal Madness 2021

The “Mammals Suck… Milk!” blog is running a March Madness type tournament with Mammal species.  The tournament was created by Dr. David Schiffman a mammologist at Arizona State University.  It is a simulated combat between the animals.  Follow along and make a bracket.  They will be posting update throughout the month of March.

BUT WELCOME BACK TO THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH!  What’s March Mammal Madness?

Dr. David Schiffman covered the science of the tournament this week at Scientific American!

And Educator Jen Gabrys made this AMAZING hype trailer! (database of teacher/student created resources like digital brackets, trading cards, info sheets and more!)

We can only suggest the following for maximal fun & learning. Print out the bracket, predict who will win in each of the match-ups in round one, then round two, and so on and so forth, all the way out to your prediction who wins IT ALL! Get your friends, colleagues, and/or family to play.

I am writing to you guys about an error my fellow classmates at Margaretta middle school and I think you guys have made in the Sea Beasties category of March mammal madness. The research me and my classmates have gathered it says that the Platyzilla verses the ammonite the Platyzilla should have won. First example of evidence is that the battle happened in a fresh water pond which is Platyzilla´s habitat and the competitor the ammonite would not even be able to survive as its habitat is oceans. Second there is no sure answer how a predator such as the Platyzilla might react to a chipped tooth but fleeing from a meal does not sound like an outcome. If you guys could email me back at amiller2026@margsd.com about your opinion and why the ammonite would have won or proving my classmates and me wrong, that would be great.

Let me ask why an animal is afraid of a stomp on the ground? Of all the animals to win, you chose a bird?!?! I feel like you cheated and now I don’t get pizza. Gmail me back at jbouy2026@margsd.com to give me a reason why. My friend ayden sent one too, so answer him also if you could, thank you.
