Throwback Thursday #28: Photos of Braidwood Coal Mining 1960

This is Throwback Thursday #28.  In these, we look back into the past at ESCONI specifically and Earth Science in general.  If you have any contributions, (science, pictures, stories, etc …), please sent them to esconi.info@gmail.com.  Thanks!

Here are a few photos of the Braidwood coal mines in 1960.  Some very large drag lines and and cranes were used to remove the coal.

    Nick,
These photos were scanned a few years ago. They were part of a donation to ESCONI at some point. The man in the first photo is Verne Montgomery, who I believe was an ESCONI member back in the 1950’s and 1960’s. There only label says they are from 1960, or maybe 1966.
I do have a few more and could send them. Is your history going to be online? We would love to publish a link!
    Cheers,
    Rich
