Thank you for posting our National Fossil Day event at Cosley Zoo.
We had an excellent day talking to guests, many of whom came specifically to see fossils due to social media posts about this event. Some even wore their favorite dinosaur shirts, masks, hats!
Participants actively engaged with us to learn about our state fossil, the Tully Monster, and many other fossil specimens from Mazon Creek. They also learned about sharks past and present with a display of fossil megalodon shark tooth evolution as compared to a modern great white shark jaw. We also explored fossil dinosaur specimens and discussed some of the discoveries paleontologists have made by studying unique morphological clues and comparisons to other specimens past and present. Each participant received a free fossil shark tooth with a scientific label to start their own fossil collections.
Attendance was outstanding, Cosley Zoo recorded a total of 2,246 guests on this day!
We look forward to planning future educational outreach events with them and hope it will inspire people of all ages to become involved in ESCONI, earth science and nature.
    Thank you,
    Bruce and Rene’ Lauer
